Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important official stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
