Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

An IT issue at the airport's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the facility.

Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were halted because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, considerable delays are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the current status on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are managed.
